About
An introduction to telling important stories online
If you are doing work in the social sector and want people to know about it, this blog and the accompanying workshop is for you.
Blogging for People Who Should is both an introduction to the methods of blogging and social media and a workshop on the art of telling your story online in an authentic and engaging way.
The course runs over four evening sessions. We will cover the following:
Session One: A Blogging Plan and Who Am I Online?
Participants will clarify why they are blogging and who they are writing for, set some goals and guidelines for success, make some decisions about how they want to shape their online identity, and finish with a basic blogging plan.
Session Two: Blogging Tools and Listening
Participants will evaluate which blogging tool(s) will meet their needs, learn how to identify, join and help maintain online conversations and finish by learning how to build a basic online ‘listening post’ to find and track conversations happening online.
Session Three: Creating Blog Entries
Participants will learn the key characteristics of effective blog entries and how to come up with fresh content while still having time for a life.
Session Four: Promotion and Evaluation
In this session, participants will learn how to make sure their message is visible on the internet, how to extend their reach with Facebook and Twitter and how they can monitor how their audience is finding and interacting with their blog.

The workshop is run by me, Eric Squair, and held at the Centre for Social Innovation in Toronto, Canada. There are plans to create an online version of the workshop – if you want to know when that launches, let me know by sending me an email.
