How do I know if I ’should’ blog?
If the work you are doing could benefit from a good online presence , you should take this course. Blogging can be a very effective way to communicate online – whether you are telling your own story or telling the story of a larger organization.

What kind of technical skills will I need for this course?
You won’t need many technical skills beyond being able to type, access the internet, and log in to a website. You won’t need to know how to manipulate digital images or how to write HTML, but any knowledge in these areas would be a bonus.

Do I need to bring a computer to class?
You won’t need a computer during the sessions, but of course access to a computer and the internet is necessary between sessions. A computer would be helpful during the class, so bring along a laptop if you have access to one (there will be wireless internet access in the class).

Will there be homework between classes?
There will be a few tasks – like registering a URL, setting up Google accounts, some writing, etc. – required between classes. It shouldn’t take more than an hour most weeks.

Will you set up my blog for me?
Not during the class. During the second session we will be discussing what blogging tool will suit your technical skills, fit your budget and offer you the most powerful and flexible set of features for blogging. I can offer advice on how to set up your blog or refer you to a web designer for in-depth help.

Why is this over four nights – why not a one-day session?
The course takes place over four nights because there is a lot to learn, and there is some ‘homework’- light reading and online research – to be done between sessions.

How do I register?
Visit http://bloggingforpeoplewhoshould.eventbrite.com to register online. You will need a credit card or PayPal You can also reserve a spot and pay the entire amount by cheque or cash before the first session.

What if I have to miss a class? This workshop should be run again soon, and if you have to miss a class, you are welcome to sit in on the missed class the next time it is offered. If you have to miss the first class, however, it would be best to wait and take another session.

What if I want to take this course, but I don’t live near Toronto?
Several people have asked me this question, and I am looking into offering an online version if all goes well. A big part of the learning will come from interaction between students and experience ‘guest’ bloggers brought in to share their experience – if this dynamic can be somehow replicated, the online version will be a go. Drop me a line if you are interested in an online version, and you will be the first to know when/if it is launched.
